The manager of Derby County, Wayne Rooney has given an update concerning why he turned down the job at Everton.

The Merseyside side club reportedly approached Rooney to take over the managerial job at the club following the termination of Rafael Benitez’s contract. According to reports from the athletic, Rooney confirmed that Everton contacted his agents but he is not ready for the Premier League.

Everton approached my agent and asked me to interview for the job. But I turned it down. I believe I will be a Premier League manager and I am ready for that 100 per cent. But I have a job at Derby which is important to me.

Everton are reportedly said to hold another round of interviews with both Frank Lampard and Vitor Pereira as the possible options to replace Benitez.
