Nigerian wrestler, Blessing Oborududu, has guaranteed the Nigerian team a medal at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The energetic Oborududu, on Monday 2nd of August 2021, made history by becoming the first Nigerian to reach the final of a wrestling event at the Olympics, guaranteeing a medal for the Nigerian team in the process.

Obourududu defeated Elis Manolova in the round of 16, thrashing the Azerbaijani 13-2, after which she defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova in the quarter-finals, 3-2.

She went on to record an impressive 7-2 victory against Monlogia’s Battsetseg Soronzonbold to enter the final, ensuring that Nigeria would at least get a silver medal in that category.

Oburududu will face Tamyra Stock Mensah in the final match slated for Tuesday.
