The former Chelsea man was appointed in place of sacked manager, Rafael Benitez whose contract was terminated following the recent run of results at the Merseyside club. Lampard was speaking in a press conference which was reported by Mirror Football ahead of the club’s FA Cup game against Brentford at Goodison Park.

In terms of our business with Donny and Dele, they are separate cases. I just look at the player and the person and I had conversations with them both. They are both very very talented players. I have come up against them in the past and was very impressed with them. Sometimes it is good to get players in who have a point to prove. They come in with hunger, I trust their talent and I trust them as people. My job now is to create an environment to support them to let them show the talent they have. It’s natural talent they have and we have to harness it. It is my job to put it all together.

Van De Beek joined Everton on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season while Alli signed a permanent deal from Tottenham on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
