Manchester City’s defender, Benjamin Mendy, on Friday, September 10th, 2021, had his trial date set at the Chester Crown Court. He was charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. Mendy has remained in custody since the start of the case.

He was accused of allegedly sexually assaulting three women by the Cheshire Constabulary last month. According to reports, the incident involving the player and the women who were above the age of 16 occurred between October 2020 and August 2021.
According to reports from Mirror football on Friday, September 10th, 2021, the 27-year-old defender will have his trial on 24 January 2022, which is expected to last for two and a half weeks. He is expected to remain in custody till the end of his trial. No pleas were allowed, but a further plea trial will happen on November 15, 2021.
Manchester City suspended the player till further notice after the incident was brought to the attention of the club by the Chester Police.
