Former British Number 1, Andy Murray had booked a place in the second round of the Australian Open after getting past 21st seed, Nikoloz Basilashvili in a five-set thriller.

The game ended 6-1 3-6 6-4 6-7 6-4, this is the first time he is getting past the first round for the first time since 2017.

In the other games in the Men’s category, the fifth seed, Andrey Rublev beats Gianluca Mager 6-3, 6-3,6-2. Diego Schwartzman also got past Filip Krajinovic in straight sets 6-3,6-4,7-5 while 15th seed Roberto Bastista Agut beat Stefano Travaglia 7-6(2), 6-4, 5-7,6-1.

Frances Tiafoe needed five sets to beat Marco Trungelliti 3-6,6-4,6-2,3-6,6-3. 32nd seed Alex De Minaur came from a set down to beat Lorenzo Musetti 3-6,6-3,6-0, 6-3.

There was an upset in the Women’s category as US Open Women’s finalist in 2021, Leylah Fernandez got stunned by wildcard, Madison Inglis in straight sets to book her spot in the next round of the competition.

In other games in the Women’s category, Hailey Baptiste defeated Carolina Garcia 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-3 to book a second-round spot. It was also an easy run for Samantha Stosur who is playing at her last tournament beat Robin 6-7,6-3,6-3.
