The Senegalese camp at the African Cup of Nations celebrated Edouard Mendy at the ongoing African Cup of Nations ( AFCON) ongoing in Cameroon.
Mendy was given a standing ovation by his teammates after he was named the best goalkeeper in the world for the year 2021 by FIFA. The award was given to the player in absentia at the headquarters of FIFA in Zurich, Switzerland on Monday, January 18th, 2022.
The shot-stopper won the award because of his exploits with Chelsea at the 2020/21 season winning the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super League. He beat Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer and Paris Saint-Germain Gianluigi Donnarumma to the award.
Mendy played 50 games last year ( 2021), he kept 29 clean sheets and conceded 27 goals.
