From all indications, Sony Music is finally making its way back to Nigeria. This info has just been made public by D’banj via his InstaGram page.
In Banga Lee’s own words, “Welcome to Nigeria… Welcome to Sony Nigeria… DB Records stunting through… finally they are coming back…” He also goes on to say “A good friend and business man berths SONY in Nigeria after a long hiatus… if y’all don’t know Mr Watson now, I’m sure you will soon… #SonyNigeria #DBRecords”.
For those who know about the history of Nigerian music, you’d recall that some of the major international record labels were in Nigeria till sometime around the early 90’s. The return of Sony Music shows how much Nigerian music has progressed in recent years.
Hopefully this will take our music to even greater heights across the globe and usher in more investment in our entertainment industry from the Western World.
*O.O*

They are welcome….i only pray dat dia coming bak b for good n not to come n extort from d little progress we hv managed to build on our own in the entertainment industry…..My opinion though……just saying.
truth is stranger than fiction
Sound great
I'm yet to understand why we desperately need these guys on ground when Dbanj the brand himself is big enough and capable of running the same operation from naija through africa and beyond. This mentality needs drastic revision.
Lastman, you ain't got the answers. you ain't.
lol. dat's Kanye sturff right there. U ain't got the answer sway.
SONY get ready for part 2 of 'ALABA tinz… work on getting rid of Piracy thats the only way u can stay in Naija.. just saying
Fact! You said the truth.. We are strong enough now to do it on our own.. They are just coming back to extort cos they have seen where naija entertainment will be in few years time… Come to Europe and see what Afrobeat is doing… most concepts here now involves Afrobeats..
Its about time they start bringing our brands to the west..
Lol, they're tryna cash in though. Tryna reap where they didn't sow. They've seen what we've achieved without them, so they "came back". Truth be told, we don't really need them. But oh well, what do I know?
The main inhibitor is that we just do not believe in ourselves. We as Africans are often afraid to break new grounds. We want to follow a sure road when we can even create surer roads. Afrobeat is doing big things globally,It is an African thing that should be sold to the world by Africans… We need to start thinking about the way we think. Perception is everything!
Of course trust Naija man to carry all him sweat dash oyibo without thinking. They upped and left us in the cold and now wey we don muddle through and are making progress ..Voila, Here they arrive!! Who no know no go know. Guys make una no rush go sign contracts.
Dey with your Naija producers and marketers abeg. These oyibo things no dey help usat all.
dbanj self and all this hype …my brother go and carefully revise your work and deliver like u used to before all the kanye hype. Now its sony hype …all these name dropping no dey trip us naija peeps again ..we are killing it without them, these guys are business men dey dont luv you ..just here to cash in.
luv u my bro dbanj but please re-invent and come back 2 times harder like the CV days ..oh how i miss those days.
what hype? dbanj can't post instagram pic again? its is instagram he can post anything he want to post, its only in naija dbanj will tweet he is going to the toilet and it will become news, dbanj is just like lilwayne, lil wayne raps rubbish and his rubbish top charts, dbanj don't tell me nonsense when released lastyr was no 1 on mtvbase top10, no1 on soundcitytp10, don't tell me nonsense video was played on BET lastyr, dbanj scapegoat remix ft yeezy was no 1 on hotnewhiphop.com, blame it on the money ft big sean and snoop was no 10 on hotnewhiphop.com in yankee lastyr, na to make vidoes for those songs dbanj huge fans dey wait for, to show you that dbanj is a boss idris elba retweeted the confidential song – shadowboxer ft idris elba and dbanj-played on captal xtra in uk
you are so on point…you practically spoke my mind…
EjaNla! we need more H!Ts to your catalog not labels. whatever happened to the GOODMusic partnership tho! i thought those cats would have brought you out as special guest on tours/shows like Tinie Tempah is doing for Wizkid; such a perfect platform to get exposed to new audience, you're a crowd pleaser and would have had no problems selling yourself on stage, but you brought/paid those cats to be in your concert in gidi, now is Sony coming to sow or reap from us? DKM was a 17 track album with 4 bonus tracks; but what was the average life span of the singles from that album? Wasn't SONY supposed to promote that project? Island DefJam is defunct, what next? we are into 2nd quarter of 2014 and only time you seen to make buzz on music radar is when in pictures with these label execs? sure, you're a businessman with other ventures and means of revenue and so is likes of Diddy and Jayz, etc. but these guys are still fight musically to be on charts because that's a free promo to your other brands! let's hold our own and depend less on these western sharks! because white man is only there when the going is green.
"From Surulere to the World – Wizkid"
well said.
dbanj toured with labrinth and rita ora in uk, them jay z , diddy , bruno mars have over 7 labels worldwide, Enrique iglesias has 6 music labels, that's the way it is abroad, don't know if the direction dbanj is going with this sony music is right or wrong but dbanj is still with good music, all these naija bloggers are looking for news, anything dbanj tweets is now news nawa o, 2 weeks before the false news of dbanj dropped from goodmusic Mr hudson tweeted a throwback pic of him with dbanj, david guetta shared a pic of himself with dbanj on instagram, since goodmusic signed a deal with defjam and universal music, there is now defjam africa, kanye signed dbanj to 2 universal music uk branch- mercury records and M17 records in london, Bastille- the band that sang pompeii are signed to M17 records, yes naija music company can stand there ground now but everything is about connections, 2baba ft tpain because of is konvict music connection, kanye is close to most fashion designers that's how dbanj got the Giuseppe snickers, the sony guys really promoted dbanj top of world and blame it on the money ft bigsean, top of the world was no 2 on a southafrica music top10 lastyr. dbanj signed with sony africa to push is songs to other africa countries, the truth is that some africa countries know the name dbanj but don't know is songs, dbanj went for a show in Zimbabwe or so lastyr and the only song they knew was olivertwist, south Africans, Kenyans,Ugandans know all dbanj songs most especially southafricans, all these long story are d truth
Naija ppl we never change from criticizing ppl taking step in making thing better.., this man is just trying to make Nigeria music more profitable and global..I wonder if anyone of u have bought original cd before or bought music online., music needs to pay nd tat what's dbanj doing., y'all should support and stop hating his idea..the facet again is no one is making optimistic movement in trying to make d industry better, except dbanj..that Man is hard working!!!
without discrediting your review, every game has rules, and every industry has players, dbanj being a brand in nigeria, was because he was playing the game with the ruling class in the industry as at that time, nigerian music needed something new and mohits crew provided it. he never built the brand on his own, talent is not enough in the music industry ask mode nine..lol, he cannot break into the US markets and the rest of african markets without the Major players. The Media is what makes an artiste a brand or household name and keeps him there and without them they can take that name Dbanj down in a matter of minutes to say the least. I am sure names like chris brown is familiar with you and Micheal Jackson, Micheal was big enough to be even viewed as bigger than the media but the took him down, you can't fight these people bro, They own the industry and you must go through them. Dbanj is a media crafted personality with all due respect, he doesn't sing good music compared to 2 face. What do you think will happen to 2face if he was in good music or def jam, compared to dbanj. bless
Na wa for dis country, dis is the only country we dnt support our own, before now, d gap wit the so call afro beat n western music is so wide bt dis young man came into the country saw n conquer n decided to bridge the gap wch to me he has done cus for the like of wizzy, davido n others to find it easy to move around n do heavy collabo is not by dere doin, someone too d risk n giant steps n he is not making noise abt dat like broda idris abdul. All we need is support them n the industries. For u dat said DKM album wasn't it I urge u to go back n listen to it witout sentiment, it is one of the main album last year in term of everytin u might wanna say, we hv gotten to a level now dat song won't last in our head cus naija musicians are upping dere game daily, we hv more than enuf to listen to if u go to clubs u will understand, mayb dat is y we don't gv respect to anyone. Psquare did a foreign collabo thru foreign label, tuface did, ice price did n a lot is comin up. Someone has to push it, oliver twist opened naija market up finally. So support our own. Dbanj is too smart than wat u think. He is alegend. Respect banga.
he paid GOODMusic cats to come to gidi so wetin concern labrinth/rita ora with GOODMusic? it makes sense that if you bring your label mates to your shows in gidi, they should do same for you in yankee. oh please get your facts right: jayz is not on many labels, his last album was released under "Roc-A-Fella, Roc Nation, Universal" of which he OWNS two out of the three labels. Diddy is signed to only interscope as he owns BadBoy. this is 2014 and everybody is going indie, look around you. 50cent just got out of shady/aftermath/interscope to be on his own so he can have control over his material and creativity! so which abroad are you talking about? and according to you, Giuseppe sneaker and throwback pics is now an achievement? that's what should be in his catalog? REALLY?!?
i didn't say Giuseppe sneaker and throwback pics is an achievement bro, read d facts well, a lot of haters want good music to drop dbanj but that ain't happening, i wrote getting the goodmusic deal and the sony deal is about connections, because dbanj changed is twitter bio some haters started spreading false news that goodmusic dropped dbanj, the Giuseppe sneakers dbanj got from Giuseppe himself a friend of kanye and the throwback pics are proof that dbanj is still with goodmusic, dbanj got the sneakers thru connections, everything is about connections, 2baba had a video with tpain because of his konvict music connections, dbanj toured with rita ora and labrinth was a reply to the wizkid fan that wrote wizkid opened a show for tinnie tempah, jay z has over 7 labels bro, yes jay z owns Roc nation, Roc nation has a deal with defjam, jay z signed with universal, universal has a branch in uk- mercury records uk, kanye and jay z signed with mercury records uk, kanye signed dbanj to mercury records uk and M17 records uk,just google jay z, diddy,50 cent record labels and you'll see the truth, pitbull is spanish ,in abroad artists have over 3 or 5 labels, pitbull signed to latino music and Rca,psy oppa the artist known for gangnam style is from japan and he has 8 labels, all this long story are on the artists Wikipedia bro, if you watched dbanj interview with tim westwood he said goodmusic will handle is international songs while sony will handle Africa, @sayso wagbayi but all this longstory is the truth
The funny thing about big record labels like universal , sony , etc , you need them if you wanna go international. Like Kanye said , " they are the gate keepers" they are the devils you can't do without . I don't buy the idea of them coming to take what we created….even if we don't do business with them, white people may start singing afrobeat and they are going to sell more than what our top range artists like p square and d'banj are selling. If we really wanna go international, we need the big labels who has partners around the world and they can help us shape out music business…..please don't worry yourself about Alaba, digital sales of music is going to kick them out of the market soon. Please we should all understand how our deals and made in entertainment, if you don't then please google it,for you to understand something, like distribution deal, recording deal, promotional deal and the rest.
Great Move D'banj. But i just have some doubts about this deal. First, the reason why the occupy wall street movement happened was as a result of big players (big companies e.g. Sony Records) getting all the money and paying small business owners peanuts. If Sony Records berths in Nigeria, what is the deal or collaboration you have with them? Will you want to be rich but encourage capitalism in the Nigerian Music industry? We have a whole lot of growing music labels in Nigeria, will Sony Record deprive them the opportunity to grow just like what they do in America? My point is that capitalism have a whole lot of casualties while few persons are smiling to the bank. Don't sacrifice the growth of many to the growth of few… This is very important.
Thats nice one, that they are here, the illuminatti us now..
With the help of sony Music we can sell alot of CD worldwide and D'banj is doing his best to sell more to the whole world.
My brother I know u love dbanj and your comments are coming from the heart …but its not gonna help any body if u don't criticize positively as a fan …am a fan but am mature enuf to step out the box of emotions and say the facts to help all involved.
FEAR DBANJ he is coming back hard and strong but this time wants to make sure he's music will reach the world.
