The Gunners announced Martin Odegaard as the captain of the team on its official website on Saturday, July 30th, 2022. According to the reports, the decision to name the former Real Madrid player, the captain of the club was solely the decision of Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal has had issues with the captaincy position in recent months. The club’s former player, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the captain’s armband in January 2022 but he left for Barcelona. Alexander Lacazette who took the responsibility has also left the club to rejoin Olympique Lyon.
The 23-year-old has made a huge impact since arriving at Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid in January 2021, initially on loan, and has gone on to play 60 times, scoring nine goals.
