The body governing basketball in the world, FIBA have kicked Nigeria out of the upcoming 2022 Women’s Basketball World Cup.

The decision was announced on the official website of FIBA on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022. According to the body, Mali will take the spot of D’Tigress following the recent ban placed by the Federal government of Nigeria on Basketball on the international scene.
FIBA also confirmed that because of the preparation that they will need for participating teams the deadline given to Nigeria has elapsed. Mali was chosen as the team to replace Nigeria because they are the next ranked team from Group B of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 qualifying tournament.
The body will announce in the coming days if there will be any other decision related to the NBBF’s participation in other FIBA competitions.
