Newcastle confirmed the news on its official website on Friday, January 7th, 2022. The left-back is the first senior player that the new owners will be signing since they took over the Magpies.
Trippier expressed his delight as it concerns his return to the Premier League for the first time since he left Tottenham for the Madrid team.
I am delighted to be joining this fantastic club. I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I became aware of the interest from Newcastle United, and having worked with Eddie Howe before, I knew this was where to be. I am aware there is a lot of work ahead of us but I know the demands of the Premier League well and I know what an amazing club this is with very talented players. I can’t wait to get started and I am excited to step out at St. James’ Park as a Newcastle player.
The 31-year-old defender was a key part of the Atletico Madrid team that won the La Liga title last season ( 2020/21season). Newcastle fans will hope Trippier’s experience will help the team escape relegation in the Premier League this season.
